Bramble Berry Basket
One and a half days
14/15 April 2018
Sat 10.30am-4.30pm & Sun 10.30am-1pm
2019 dates will be confirmed soon, and you can hear about them via my newsletter or by checking the website again.
Venue: we’ll be based in 70 acres of ancient coppiced woodland, on a family-run working farm. A peaceful and beautiful setting. Dernwood Farm, Waldron, Nr Heathfield, Sussex, TN21 0PN
Bramble baskets are our most popular basketry courses. People love turning a (generally) unliked plant into something really useful and beautiful…which isn’t prickly. Perfect to use when you go out foraging for berries, mushrooms, etc. Or great for storing eggs, garlic and that kind of thing in your kitchen. You’ll see those pesky brambles in a whole new light.
Learn how to harvest and process bramble, some of which we’ll cut on the day. You’ll be guided through all stages of the making process to help you have a good understanding of the techniques involved.
We’ll also have time set aside for connecting to the woodland surroundings, making the course a nourishing as well as a learning experience. Suitable for all levels, including beginners, places limited to 10 participants to ensure individual attention.
Picking the bramble prior to making the basket made me feel really connected to the finished product. I also felt the achievement of mastering the skill of turning an unwanted plant into something of beauty and use. Meike W, Croydon
Accommodation: camping is available at the farm venue and full details about this will be sent to you when you book on the course. The farm also has glamping options, including cosy bell tents and cabins with wood-burners.
Please note that the cost of staying at the farm isn’t included in the cost of the course.
